Dr Ann-Marie Munday:
I worked in the NHS for 20 years, working mainly within Mental Health Services for Adults.
I have worked with adults with complex, severe, and enduring mental health difficulties, with a specialist interest in working with complex PTSD and trauma.
In private practice, I see people with a wide range of difficulties and issues including those listed below, and more:
Within the first appointment, my goal is to work with you to carefully understand the difficulties you bring and together form a shared understanding and agreement of the problem you would like my help with. This can be clear after the first meeting but it is not unusual for this to take more than one appointment.
The psychological therapy approach I use then depends on the particular difficulties and goals you bring to therapy. I aim to tailor what I offer to suit your specific needs as required.
The main therapy approaches I use include:
The goal of this therapy approach is to help clients challenge the unhelpful and self-sabotaging patterns that they find themselves in, in how they relate with themselves and with others. It aims to bring to light unconscious processes and beliefs that lead to suffering, anxiety, low mood and depression, and works towards the growth of self-acceptance, self-compassion and care.
EMDR is an approach that can support people to recover from distressing events or trauma and the symptoms that can come from feeling overwhelmed by these events, including flashbacks and nightmares, anxiety, low mood, and irritability.
It combines using talking therapy and side-to-side eye movements in a very specialised and particular way. This facilitates the processing of negative beliefs, emotions, images and bodily sensations that can appear to have become stuck related to traumatic memories.
I am also trained in other approaches including:
Appointments are 50 minutes long. The number of appointments that you may require varies for each individual. This is something we will discuss following assessment. We can review this together periodically throughout therapy. I am able to offer both time-limited and longer-term therapy.
I aim to offer a warm and compassionate space, which is non-judgmental and respectful. I want to help you make progress towards the changes you want, whether emotionally, psychologically or practically, so that you can get on with aiming to live your life in the way you want and deserve.
People I have worked with have thanked me for my calm, reassuring, presence; listening with great care and attention and helping them to focus on what truly needs to be considered.
My values include:
