Dr Rachel Swancott is a Senior Clinical Psychologist who has been qualified since 2012. 

She is a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Rachel has worked in several services in the NHS as a clinical psychologist, particularly specializing in clinical health psychology, for people with physical health difficulties, including within the following services:

  • Chronic pain/ pain psychologist
  • Renal psychology/ renal psychologist
  • Cancer psychology / cancer psychologist and
  • Sickle cell and thalassaemia psychologist

Currently working as Senior Clinical Psychologist in the NHS, Rachel also offers a few remote private practice appointments for health psychology work.

Dr Rachel Swancott uses different therapy approaches, tailored to the person including:

  • Narrative Therapy,
  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT),
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), 
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Rachel works collaboratively and compassionately with people and supports people with the emotional difficulties associated with their physical health.  This includes, but is not limited to, adjustment to unwanted changes in the person’s physical health, supporting with the psychological aspects of pain management, coping with uncertainty, traumatic experiences related to physical health and strategies to cope with changes in their mood.

There is guidance (including NICE guidance) that people with different types of cancer can benefit from seeing a clinical psychologist, psycho oncology work.

A Clinical Psychologist can help with many aspects of a cancer diagnosis.

Evidence-based psychological interventions are on offer to help with feelings on receiving a cancer diagnosis or other diagnosis. Interventions offered include psycho education about reactions (psychological/emotional), learning associated coping skills, and helping you with the adjustments you are faced with (behaviour, lifestyle, stress management, coping with side effects, talking with others etc).
